Uta Bekaia is a Georgian-born multimedia artist currently based between Brooklyn and Tbilisi. His work centers on the speculative recreation of ancestral rituals, reimagined through a Queer utopian lens. His exhibitions have been hosted by notable galleries including ERTI Gallery (Tbilisi), the Silk Museum (Tbilisi), The Lodge Gallery (New York), Marisa Newman Projects (New York), and the Center for Contemporary Art (Batumi).

Bekaia is known for his speculative reimaginings of ancestral rituals, reconfigured through the lens of a Queer utopian future. His practice merges traditional crafts with contemporary sensibilities, resulting in elaborate wearable sculptures, ceramics, tapestries, and immersive performances.

At the PAiR residency Uta will develop his project “Jāņi”, which will weave together folklore, performance, and traditional craft within a vivid contemporary framework. It will premiere as a live performance on June 21, 2025, followed by an installation, documenting the event. The project will be curated by Daria Kravchuk, an Amsterdam-based curator, museologist and an art journalist.
