On 31 July, the workshop “Imants and Imants” will take place at the PAiR residency in Pāvilosta. Together with students from POST, the Master’s programme at the Art Academy of Latvia, participants will explore the principles of creating film sound, or Foley, and collaboratively produce a soundtrack for the film “Neighbours” by Pāvilosta-born filmmaker Imants Stūrmanis. The evening will conclude with a screening of the film at the open-air cinema in the garden of the PAiR residency.
Workshop participants will learn about the use of Foley sound effects in cinema, experiment with various sound-making techniques, and work together to create the film’s soundtrack. It will be an opportunity to glimpse behind the scenes of filmmaking and take part in the creative process.
Following the workshop, at 9:00 p.m., everyone is invited to an open-air screening in the garden of the PAiR residency, where “Neighbours,” featuring the soundtrack created during the workshop, will be shown. The event invites audiences to experience cinema as a collective creative process in which image and sound come together to form a unified whole.
About POST
POST is an interdisciplinary, specialised Master’s programme at the Art Academy of Latvia that places art studies within a broader context. The programme offers an opportunity to explore and test what it means to study art today while situated between Eastern and Northern Europe—a region characterised by shifting borders, changing environments, and extensive experience of the imposition and collapse of global ideologies. POST can be understood as an open space for study, ideas, and experimentation, moving in a zigzag between practice and theory.

Visitor information
Weather permitting, part of the workshop will take place in and around the garden of the PAiR residency. Participants are therefore encouraged to wear clothing suitable for activities both indoors and outdoors.
