A collaborative performance made by PAiR former resident Chin Meng-Hsuan in collaboration with Yen Wang-Yun and Nick Tsai premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2025.

On 5 February 2025, the multidisciplinary performance Blue Sun (藍太陽) premiered at WORM & WORM UBIK in Rotterdam as part of the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR). The work brought together filmmaker Yen Wang-Yun (閻望雲), sound artist Nick Tsai (蔡瑋德), and visual artist Chin Meng-Hsuan in a live collaboration blending 16mm analogue film projection, modular synth soundscapes, and charcoal drawing.
Blue Sun reflects on the 1984 mining accidents in Northern Taipei and their enduring emotional and cultural impact. Inspired by the writings of Taiwanese novelist Tong Wei-Ger, the performance explored how these traumatic events continue to shape collective memory and identity. The piece unfolded as a poetic dialogue between moving image, sound, and gesture — a bridge between literature and performance.
For Chin Meng-Hsuan, the project marked a continuation of her exploration of charcoal as a primary medium. Her interest in the material began during a 2023 residency at PAiR in Pavilosta, where she worked intensively on large-scale paper drawings. That experience evolved into the 2024 series Moss and Pitchforks, and later into this live performance — where drawing became a time-based and spatially responsive act.
With its meditative rhythm and interplay of image and sound, Blue Sun captured a moment of ephemeral intensity, shaped by the presence of the artists, the audience, and the specific energy of the space.
